skincare // the am edition

Morning skincare routines can be as simple or as complex as time and products allow. Both serial snoozers, we share the prods we swear by for effective, no-fuss results and how we go about using them…

Step 1: Cleanse – A dermatologist once told me that there is no need to cleanse with a product in the morning if you have treated your skin the night before, simply water and a muslin cloth (currently the Pai Muslin Cloths) will do the trick. So I usually assess the situation in the morning and cleanse with the Ultraceuticals Brightening Foaming Cleanser if necessary.

Step 2: Treat – A recent addition to my skincare regime, I first apply a pump of the Ultra MD Brightening Serum. It’s a super lightweight serum that immediately sinks into the skin and is designed to do away with those pesky red marks left after a breakout. Then, I add couple of drops of the SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel – there’s no denying that part of the reason I use it is for the bright green colour, ha ! The other part is that it really does calm down my skin. Since using both of these prods, my breakouts are almost non-existent and my acne scars are fading, yay !

Step 3: Moisturise – I am yet to find my HG eye cream, but my current squeeze is the Ultraceuticals Moisturising Eye Cream, which comes in a convenient pump that disperses just the right about of product for the delicate eye area. I gently pat the eye cream under and over the eye area, then move onto the face with the Ultraceuticals Hydrating Lotion. This moisturizer is light and absorbs into my skin so quickly, which really helps for my combination skin and means I can go straight ahead to next step…

Step 4: Sun Protection – I will admit that I never used to not adhere to this step nearly as much as I should have (which is daily btw). Since using the Ultra MD Brightening Serum, sunscreen is a must ! I was informed that not using sunscreen could have the effect of darkening my pigmentation instead of lightening it, so that threat was enough to shock me into daily protection from the suns rays. I’m currently reaching for the Kiehl’s Ultra Light UV Defence SPF 50 PA +++ as the ultra-light formula, which doesn’t break me out, is quick to absorb so I can move straight onto makeup – totally necessary for the gal who hits snooze far too often 😉

Disclaimer: When I entered the big, bad world of full time work a couple of years ago, morning ‘prep’ time dramatically decreased. To this day, I simply wash my face, splash on a serum or SK-II’s facial essence and moisturise before jumping in the car. (Makeup takes place en route… my drive is 45 min!)

Wash – Like N, I’ve also been told cleansing in the morning isn’t necessary so I swap out my favourite Skinceuticals evening cleanser (coming soon) for a quick splash of water.

Hydrate – Next up is my favourite step with my favourite product… Ultraceuticals Ultimate B2 Hydrating Serum as it provides incredible, immediate hydration. I apply a few drops of this thick serum to the face and neck and literally melts into the skin – such a delight! I alternate with SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence, another dream product. The ‘miracle water’ helps the skin renewal cycle and makes skin look healthy. Just splash on a few drops and let the compliments start rolling in 😉

Soften – My latest secret weapon is MAC’s Lightful C Marine-Bright Formula Softening Lotion, recommended by a MUA a few weeks back. She applied the softening lotion with a cotton pad before moisturiser and the result was softer, smoother skin both visually and to touch. It acts like a swipe-on exfoliator.

Moisturise – My fool proof moisturiser is the Skinceuticals Emollience Moisturize. Non-greasy and gets the job done. Perfection.

NB. You’ll notice an eye cream is missing, as I’m yet to find the perfect prod. Also, I’m terrible with preventative treatments… it’s only when I get the fine lines that I’m sure I’ll rush out and buy every eye cream on the planet. N always tells me off for this so I am looking !!
