REVIEW // Chanel Edit

On a recent trip to Chanel Beauty I was treated to a full face of makeup by the lovely SA, and needless to say, left with a lengthy lust list. A few weeks on – and a few purchases later – I can almost do my complete makeup with these four prods alone (notable absences: mascara and concealer).

There’s something super satisfying about using same-brand skincare prods and the same certainly applies to makeup! So here’s my current Chanel edit…

Les Beiges All-in-One Healthy Glow Fluid in #20 //

Chanel markets this prod as a complexion enhancer, and the SA offered it to me as a moisturising  primer necessary for the sheer to medium coverage of the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation (see below). It blends easily into the skin, with a subtle fruity floral scent, which thankfully doesn’t linger on the skin – nothing worse than unintentional layering of scents.

To be honest, I didn’t realise what this prod did until I missed this step one morning… I lacked the radiance I had come to expect from my skin and found myself looking sallow, not ideal. So I guess it truly is a complexion enhancer as promised, offering the je ne sais quoi that a true Parisian belle has.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup in B30 //

A truly skin-like flawless finish, I find this demi-matte foundation gives me an effortless perfected face. I usually apply around my nose with fingers first to warm the product into these often-red areas, then work the remaining product out with a beauty blender. For those days when I’m after a sheerer application (i.e. more tinted moisturiser and less foundation), I up the moisturiser application and use a kabuki brush, per Lisa Eldridge’s suggestion, to thin out and buff in the foundation.

Full coverage is not to be expected and concealer is definitely necessary for pigmentation and spots, but I’ve been known to let this step go in the name the ‘au natural’ ! I love this foundation for the daytime and find the Healthy Glow Fluid underneath works a treat to make my skin look effortlessly radiant and perfected, what more could a gal ask for really?

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder in #30 //

The most recent addition to my ever-growing makeup collection, I was pleasantly surprised when I found the scent was the same as the Healthy Glow Fluid – gosh those Chanel beauty experts are always one step ahead ! Every gal needs a great compact for her handbag/clutch and this doesn’t disappoint. The mirror fills the entire lid, which is perfect for touch-ups in the back of an Uber, or cheeky under the table lipstick application. Needless to say, I was sold at the packaging, ha !

Onto the powder… it’s super finely-milled, as we like all our face powders and upon application it breathes dimension onto the face. I apply on the cheeks then move onto the forehead, nose and chin afterwards with what is left on the brush. I find if I focus on the cheeks, I can often do away with bronzer, as it defines my cheeks so there’s no need to contour or carve out my cheekbones and give me dimension. Recently I’ve been opting for a cream blush instead (Nars The Multiple Stick in Orgasm), perfect for summer !

Chanel Rouge Allure Lipstick in Coquette //

I was trying to find a description online for this lipstick, and found it was no longer available, oh no ! Then I discovered this was a Cruise Collection lippy from 2013, which says a lot about my lipstick collection because this one is barely touched, ha ! Coquette is a soft cool-toned pink, with a slight coral undertone, ie perfection. For a gal with rosy-pigmented lips, this is a “my lip colour but better” shade that instantly brightens, need I say more? Super light on the lips and non-drying, it’s safe to say I quite like the formula, and I really can’t work out why haven’t reached for this lipstick more often. Needless to say I’ll definitely be checking out more from this range, it’s totally underrated.

Oh and did I mention the pop-up packing is sleek and perfect for a beauty fanatic like me, ha !
