REVIEW // Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury – with her flaming red hair – is one of the world’s most celebrated make up artists, responsible for many of our favourite beauty campaigns and red-carpet looks on clients including Kate Moss, Rihanna, Cara Delevingne and Amal Clooney, just to name a few.

Over the years, Charlotte’s been said to have created countless secret beauty elixirs and bespoke lip colours whilst on set, so the promise of getting our hands on these precious products made her 2013 name-sake collection one of the most anticipated beauty launches of all time. In typical Australian fashion, we’ve been waiting patiently for the collection to hit our shores that finally happened earlier this year… available at www.charlottetilbury.com/au/

We placed our orders quick-smart and have been loving this deliriously good range. Here are our thoughts… xx N&J

Filmstar Bronze & Glow

N// Say hello to model off-duty killer cheekbones… What I love about this product is how perfectly the sculpting powder is able to transition between contouring the face and warming the complexion as a bronzer. The CT team has perfected the shade to allow for a gorgeous, natural contour that creates cheekbones in a swipe and yet barely needs to be buffed in. The ‘Glow’ shade also highlights the face beautifully. Highly recommended for any Bella looking for an effortless finish.

J// Good packaging wins me over in a heart beat and the dreamy rose gold Bronze & Glow palette is exactly what I want to be pulling out of my bag for touch-ups. But visual aesthetics aside, the powders are spot on too. The blendable sculpt shade goes on incredibly naturally, yet still defined, creating instant angles on the face.

For night time, I tend to pull out my Kat Von D Shade Light palette as the powders are a little more pigmented to create a heavier contour, but for the day, Charlotte Tilbury’s is heaven! The highlighter is also lovely, but the sculpt is HG. This powder duo together with the Powder & Sculpt brush is truly contour made easy.

Powder & Sculpt Brush

N & J // If you can only have one Charlotte Tilbury product, it must be this brush! With an easy to hold handle shaped like no other, and bristles that fit perfectly into the hollows of your cheeks, it’s an absolute dream. Soft, high quality bristles create effortless definition regardless of where your natural cheekbones may sit, and don’t ever allow cakey-ness to be an option.

The brush can also be used with other palettes and sculpting powders of course, with the same easy to use effect and we couldn’t recommend it enough. The brush takes the work right out of contouring! Godsent.

Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Miss Kensington Lipstick

N & J // Like the Bronze & Glow packaging, Charlotte Tilbury’s rose gold lipstick bullets are a glamorous addition to any beauty bag. The formula is lightweight and pigmented, delivering full coverage in one swipe. For those who like their nudes with warm, brown undertones, this lip prod is perfection.

We tend to look for a beige or pink nude as we find brown undertones a little heavy and mature (we prefer ‘fresh’!) so while Miss Kensington is perfectly fitting to Charlotte Tilbury’s 60’s inspired Norman Parkinson Collection, we may leave this shade for the brown undertone loving Bellas.

The Feline Flick in Panther

J // I’ve never been a big eyeliner fan, often opting to leave my favourite bronze shadows soft and liner-free during the day. But for night, I can’t go past a gel or felt-tip cat eye… pencil always feels a little stiff on the lids (personal preference!).

Feline Flick looked right up my alley so I gave it a go and it’s been lovely. The felt tip is all that I’d hoped for, easily gliding across the lid for a smooth and even finish. The packing also features a rubber grip near the tip for a non-slip hold. The pen’s biggest pro is the jet black ink that never gets dry. It applies like beautiful calligraphy!

Colour Chameleon in Amber Haze

N // Perfect for those times when you’re literally still getting ready when you should already be out the door. A quick swipe and blend is all that’s needed for long-wearing glam. As a brown-eyed girl, I followed Ms Tilbury’s suggestion and opted for the Amber Haze shade, which delivers a super flattering warm amber (as the name suggests) shimmer over the lid. The true genius in this product is that the colour is a complex shimmery pigment so there’s no need to add further dimension to the eye with another eyeshadow, simply add a swipe of liner and mascara, and you’re out the door. Take care to do one eye at a time as the amazing staying power comes at a cost, and that cost is the quick dry.
