let’s agree to disagree // lip balm edition

A girl’s journey to finding the perfect lip balm is quite a personal one and if you’re anything like us, can take years – if not a decade – to discover. Pots, tubes, doe-foot applicators and formula consistency, we all have our preferences, which explains why pinning down the Ultimate Lip Prod has us torn. So, we’ve maturely agreed to disagree… see below for our hand over heart faves!
N&J x

J // Sara Happ – One Luxe Gloss

It was the dual balm/gloss concept that initially sold me. I was watching the lovely Teni review Sarah Happ’s original Lip Slip online and while it sounded right up my lip balm-loving alley, I just couldn’t commit to spending $32 (plus shipping!) on a teensy 30g pot. It wasn’t until the end of the video Teni mentioned the formula also came in a shiny tube version that doubled as a gloss, that got me thinking… and Googling, and purchasing, and falling in love.

Due to its richness, the lusciously thick Lip Slip and One Luxe Gloss formula is Godsent for softening up chapped lips and gets to work immediately. A little product goes a long way, and lasts for hours. Apply as you’re wriggling into bed and you’ll wake up with balm still there in the morning working its magic on now revitalised lips. Apply as you’re racing out the door, and you’ll have a glossy, moisturised pout right up until lunch time. The beauty of One Luxe Gloss is that you can use it for both purposes; a nourishing treatment at night, and hydrating gloss for day –  a dream come true! The formula might be thick and sticky but that’s what I’m looking for in a hydrating treatment and the stickiness is what gives the product its extreme staying power.

The balm’s sole con is its price ($25AUD – for a lip balm, I know!) however the stuff wears for 6+ hours with immediate nourishment and doubles as a gloss. I keep a tube on my bedside table, in my handbag and on my desk at work. Ladies, say hello to your new wonder balm. Sorry, N 😉

N // Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm

When Lisa Eldridge raves about a product it’s immediately bumped to the top of my must buys, and this was no exception, even though at the time (circa 2012) it was so hard to find in Aus (now available from Adore Beauty for $19.95 and selected Priceline Pharmacies). After some major investigating online, it finally arrived on my doorstep and it was love at first swipe!

The almost-buttery texture and slightly granular (bear with me) product is unlike any lip balm I’ve used before. The thick nourishing product applies matte, which acts as the perfect lipstick primer, or simply enhances my already rosy lips within minutes for the ultimate effortless ‘my lips but better’ day option and keeps them hydrated for hours. This is absolutely perfect for me – the serial forgetful lip prod re-applier.

It was only when I included this lip balm as part of my nighttime routine that I really appreciated its nourishing properties. Post-Beauty Sleep I discovered that not only were my lips soft and hydrated, but a subtle layer remained which proves its staying power of 6+ hours.

The major sticking point for J and I is texture and consistency – and I definitely prefer a luxurious swipe as opposed to a sticky gloss. But let’s agree to disagree 😉
